What is Remedicare Education?

Remedicare Education is a specialist Alternative Provision (AP) provider supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including SLD, PMLD, SEMH and MLD.

Our provision is personalised around each learner's needs, EHCP outcomes, developmental stage and readiness to learn.

We provide a combination of educational, therapeutic, practical and experiential learning opportunities within a safe, nurturing and relationship-led environment.

Is Remedicare a school?

No. Remedicare Education is an Alternative Provision provider, not a school.

We work in partnership with schools, Local Authorities, families and other professionals to provide personalised education and support for learners who require an alternative or additional educational offer.

The school on roll remains responsible for the learner's overall educational arrangements, with roles and responsibilities agreed between the relevant professionals.

Who can access Remedicare?

Our provision supports children and young people with a range of needs, including:

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)

  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

  • Communication and interaction needs

  • Sensory and developmental needs

  • Learners who require support with emotional regulation, engagement or re-engagement with education

Every referral is considered individually. We look at the learner's needs, EHCP outcomes, strengths, communication, developmental stage and the support they require to access learning safely and successfully.

What pathways do you offer?

We currently offer a range of personalised pathways:

  • Developer – specialist sensory-led provision for learners working at early developmental levels

  • Discoverer – nurturing and structured provision for primary-aged learners

  • Enhancer – practical and confidence-building secondary provision

  • Navigator – specialist secondary provision for learners with complex needs

  • Post-16 – Preparation for Adulthood and transition-focused learning

  • Outreach – flexible support for learners who are currently unable to access on-site provision

You can find more information about each pathway on our Pathways page.

What does learning look like at Remedicare?

Learning is practical, personalised and designed around each learner's individual needs and outcomes.

Depending on their pathway, learners may experience:

  • Communication and AAC

  • Practical life skills

  • Sensory learning

  • Outdoor learning

  • Creative arts

  • Physical activity

  • Swimming

  • Community-based learning

  • Vocational learning

  • AQA Unit Awards, where appropriate

  • Preparation for Adulthood activities

We aim to make learning meaningful and connected to real life.

Do you follow the National Curriculum?

As an Alternative Provision provider, our curriculum is personalised rather than being a one-size-fits-all model.

Learning is designed around each learner's individual needs, EHCP outcomes, developmental stage and pathway.

Where appropriate, learners may work towards recognised awards and qualifications.

How do you support learners who communicate differently?

We use a Total Communication approach and adapt communication to each learner.

Depending on individual need, this may include:

  • AAC

  • PECS

  • Makaton

  • Symbols

  • Visual supports

  • Objects of reference

  • Intensive Interaction

  • Attention Autism

  • Other personalised communication approaches

The aim is to ensure that every learner has meaningful ways to communicate, make choices, express their needs and participate in learning.

Wellbeing & Behaviour Support

How do you support behaviour?

At Remedicare, we understand that behaviour is communication.

  • Our approach focuses on understanding what a learner may be communicating through their behaviour and identifying the support they need.

  • We use trauma-informed, relational and preventative approaches alongside clear, consistent routines and individualised support strategies.

  • Our Behaviour & Support Team works alongside learners, staff, families and professionals to support regulation, relationships, engagement and wellbeing.

Is Remedicare a therapeutic provision?

  • Our provision includes therapeutic and relationship-based approaches, but Remedicare is an Alternative Provision provider rather than a clinical therapy service.

  • We use therapeutic approaches within education to support learners' emotional wellbeing, regulation, relationships and readiness to learn.

  • Where specialist clinical input is required, we work with families and relevant professionals to support appropriate partnership working.

  • Safeguarding

How do you keep learners safe?

  • Safeguarding is central to everything we do.

  • We have a designated safeguarding team, clear safeguarding procedures, staff training, safer recruitment processes and systems for identifying, recording and responding to concerns.

  • We work closely with families, schools, Local Authorities and other professionals where concerns or additional support needs are identified.

  • Who should I contact if I have a safeguarding concern?

  • If you have a safeguarding concern relating to a learner at Remedicare, please contact: safeguarding@remedicare.co.uk

  • Our full safeguarding arrangements and policy can be found on our Safeguarding page.

Who can make a referral?

  • Referrals may involve schools, Local Authorities, families and other professionals depending on the learner's circumstances and the arrangements for their education.

  • We recommend contacting our team to discuss a learner's needs and whether our provision may be appropriate.

  • Does a learner need an EHCP?

  • Our provision is designed around individual need and EHCP outcomes where an EHCP is in place.

  • The most appropriate route into provision depends on the learner's circumstances and commissioning arrangements.

  • Please contact us to discuss an individual referral.

Can parents/carers refer directly?

  • Parents and carers are welcome to contact us to discuss their child's needs and our provision.

  • However, as an Alternative Provision provider, placement and funding arrangements may also involve the learner's school, Local Authority and other professionals.

  • Our team can explain the process for your individual circumstances.

Can schools visit Remedicare before making a referral?

Yes. We welcome opportunities for schools and professionals to visit our provision and understand how we work.

A visit can be a useful opportunity to discuss the learner's needs, our pathways and what provision may look like.

Please contact our team to arrange a visit.

Can parents/carers visit?

Yes. We recognise how important it is for families to understand where their child may be accessing education.

Please contact us to discuss arranging a visit.

Do you provide transport?

Yes. Remedicare provides a dedicated transport service for learners accessing our provision where this forms part of their agreed package.

Our transport arrangements are designed to provide consistency, predictability and safe transitions between home and provision.

What does the transport service include?

Where transport is included within the learner's package, arrangements may include:

  • Morning collection from home

  • Afternoon drop-off

  • Trained and safeguarding-aware staff

  • Supportive transitions between home and provision

Transport arrangements are discussed and agreed according to the learner's individual needs.

How do you measure progress?

Progress is personalised to each learner.

Alongside academic or qualification-based progress where appropriate, we consider areas such as:

  • Communication

  • Engagement

  • Emotional regulation

  • Confidence

  • Independence

  • Relationships

  • Life skills

  • Attendance

  • Preparation for adulthood

Progress is linked to the learner's individual outcomes and reviewed regularly.

How do families know how their child is doing?

  • We believe strong communication with families is an important part of successful Alternative Provision.

  • Families may receive updates on their child's engagement, progress, wellbeing and development, with communication adapted to the individual learner and agreed arrangements.

How do you work with the learner's school?

  • We work in partnership with the school on roll and other relevant professionals.

  • This can include sharing information about attendance, engagement, progress and safeguarding, contributing to reviews and working together around the learner's EHCP outcomes and wider needs.

How is Remedicare's quality monitored?

  • We are committed to continuous improvement and quality assurance.

  • Our approach includes internal monitoring, staff supervision and training, policy and procedure reviews, safeguarding audits and external quality assurance.

  • We also work with Local Authority partners and commission Judicium Education to provide independent quality assurance across areas including safeguarding, health and safety, HR, compliance and operational practice.

Where can I find your policies?

  • Our key policies and information are available through our Policies section.

  • Our Safeguarding page also provides information about our safeguarding arrangements and links to our full Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy.
